Summary of Position:

The Town of Buena Vista, Colorado is seeking a qualified land use planner to oversee current and long term planning functions for the Town.   Also includes overseeing engineering functions (i.e. contract oversight of engineer and other consultant services engaged on behalf of the Town).  Position is responsible for development, interpretation, and enforcement of land use and zoning regulations.  Initiates processing of building permit applications and serves as primary Town liaison to the County Building Department.  Processes development permits of all types (building permits, subdivision applications, PUD applications, etc.).  Fosters a “problem solving” culture in the development process.   Coordinates plan reviews with other Town departments, the County Building Department, and other referral agencies.   Responsible for maintaining an address-based file system for all planning records and an integrated GIS (Geographic Information System) database that includes zoning, streets, utilities, trails, and more.  Primary staff support to the Planning & Zoning Commission.  Develops and maintains public information, including website information, regarding Town planning and zoning functions.  Produces materials, including Power Point programs and Photoshop documents, to support public presentations and input processes. 

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in planning, urban development, or a related field required.  Masters degree preferred.  Minimum of four years experience in municipal planning, urban development, or related field.  Knowledge of water law and “smart growth” principles helpful, but not required   GIS knowledge, skills, and experience a must.  Small, rural community experience preferred.  A qualified candidate should demonstrate proficient working knowledge of GIS, urban design, and other graphic skills to prepare public presentations and mapping.  Good written and verbal communication skills a must.
